Today, I was reading my students' Halloween stories I made them write for my creative writing class in high school. One of my students wrote about attacking me. She got my street address perfect and everything. FML

#6268890 - 11/12/2009 at 2:17am - kids
I agree, your life sucks (22356)
You totally deserve it (1936)

As long as she doesnt do anything then it should be fine. Was the story good at least?

#1 - 11/12/2009 at 9:52am - JassyJas

Yeah I agree here...

#16 - 11/12/2009 at 10:24am - russianspy1234

If the story was good, it should get an "A." However, the kid also needs to be reported for disciplinary action. Sorry, but writing a story about attacking the teacher is bad news and can't be ignored. The kid COULD have written a story about fictional characters. Making it the real teacher with the real address may be cute to the kids, but in this day and age just isn't funny, and should be dealt with.

#36 - 11/12/2009 at 11:55am - Ye_Editor

I like this comment. "Well you'll be fine as long as she doesn't actually attack you!" Really, now?

#52 - 11/12/2009 at 1:12pm - molacolacake

Correct address implies she has been spying/stalking and may actually do something awful. Then again it also depends on the teacher. There are some teachers whose addresses everyone knows.... it's some unexplainable student thing.

#85 - 11/12/2009 at 7:15pm - DameGreyWulf

Correct address means she's been doing her homework. I bet it did make the story a lot scarier...

#92 - 11/12/2009 at 9:06pm - Jernau_Gurgeh

Your student is a good writer, you want a horror story. What do you get? a story that is targeted to the reader, you. The kid should get an A.

#101 - 11/13/2009 at 12:23am - condge613

Ummm. that is really creepy.

#2 - 11/12/2009 at 9:52am - HyperactiveJer

How bad of a teacher are you? the paper should still get an A though

#3 - 11/12/2009 at 9:57am - JassyJas

zero tolerance policy. show it to your school guidance counselor or psychologist and that kid will get help. don't ignore it, kids are crazy nowadays.

#4 - 11/12/2009 at 9:59am - awesome_o

Zero tolerance is a terrible policy, but I agree that this is a threat and it should be reported.

#7 - 11/12/2009 at 10:00am - pleasetryagain

Really? As far as I know, craziness knows no age, gender, etc.

#73 - 11/12/2009 at 4:30pm - ndawgg

"Report it and the kid will get help^H^H^H^H her life completely ruined." Seriously? Someone is advocating zero-tolerance as though it isn't the worst mistake in the history of education policy? It's people like you that give teaching its present low reputation in the U.S. If you invoke a zero-tolerance policy, you are completely screwing up the kid's academic record, probably keeping her out of a good college and thereby permanently altering the course of her life for the worse. If you're seriously worried about what a high-school aged girl is going to do to you, do you think it'll be any better if you crush her dreams in front of her and take away everything she has to live for?

#81 - 11/12/2009 at 6:14pm - dan131m

if a girl writes a story about attacking her teacher, complete with street address, then she is STUPID enough to get in trouble for it. zero tolerance is usually taken too far. So how MORONIC can you be to write such a creepy story in times when 1st graders get expelled for bringing butter knives to school? the girl is probably one of those whiny attention seeking "woe is me" high schoolers who thinks everyone is out to get her. I'm sorry but you should know better than to write a story about attacking a teacher and include the address she lives at. dan131m: "you will destroy all her dreams!!" HAH! anyone with half a brain would know not to write a paper like that, this girls probably too dumb to get into college. I graduated high school 2 years ago, and know that the crazy attention-desperate girls like her have a future that involves fast food, drugs or early pregnancy.

#83 - 11/12/2009 at 6:38pm - expen_dable

it sounds like something id have done cos its funny. i highly doubt shes thinking of anything beyond that.

#96 - 11/12/2009 at 10:31pm - organisedchaos

This reminds me of that King of the Hill episode where Connie exclaimed, melodramatically, something along the lines of "if [something happens/doesn't happen], I'll kill myself!" and everyone freaked the fuck out about it. She wasn't crazy, suicidal, or seeking attention, she was just being a typical teen.

#97 - 11/12/2009 at 11:26pm - DameGreyWulf

I SWEAR TO GOD MATT, IF YOU DONT FUCK HER, ILL KILL MYSELF. FUCK HER FOR ME MATT, FUCK HER FOR ME!

#103 - 11/13/2009 at 1:39am - organisedchaos

The OP is a he, read the description.

#120 - 11/14/2009 at 9:09pm - mcdys

for a writing teacher, I think you could have written this a little more clearly. but yeah it is a bit creepy, but it's not hard to find addresses, honey. FOIA sure helps.

#5 - 11/12/2009 at 10:00am - cmac86

... And also with correct usage of possessive apostrophes.

#27 - 11/12/2009 at 10:50am - IndieSinger

They DID have the correct usage of possessive apostrophes. The possessive form of one student is student's. The possessive form of plural students is students'. Don't dis an English teacher unless you know what you're talking about. :)

#84 - 11/12/2009 at 6:49pm - Etherial

stfu u misspelled "Diss" retard.

#86 - 11/12/2009 at 7:32pm - fafa123

Hahahaha pwnage!

#89 - 11/12/2009 at 8:10pm - crazytoaster

Dis and diss are slang words.. And both are correct. Ironically, though... Firefox says "diss" is misspelled.

#93 - 11/12/2009 at 9:52pm - dudeitsdanny

@Etherial: 1. I know how possessive apostrophes work. 2. I do know what I'm talking about. 3. The OP edited their post to add in the missing possessive apostrophe. Don't "dis" posters until you know the full story.

#106 - 11/13/2009 at 3:18am - IndieSinger

lets hear this story =)

#6 - 11/12/2009 at 10:00am - reecescuphoe

zero tolerance is used too much for mild cases to satisfy a faculty member's power trip but a story like that is pretty serious. bad things happen when that crap is just ignored.

#8 - 11/12/2009 at 10:09am - awesome_o

Wow that's hella scary. But cool to

#9 - 11/12/2009 at 10:11am - Turtles_rock

Your student has major stalking skills. NICEE

#10 - 11/12/2009 at 10:12am - Grillypower

Well quit being a mean or pedophiliac teacher and then you wont get that from Kids... A BIG FAT YDI!!!!

#11 - 11/12/2009 at 10:14am - Cristaderzi

STFU! If you're not a teacher than you couldn't possibly understand. No matter what you do, it's impossible to please 100% of your students. At least 10% of those little bitches will always hate you. Especially if your a woman. Think back to your favorite high school teacher....the coolest one. Someone hated him/her. If you didn't like any of your high school teachers...guess what? You're one of those little bitches in the 10%.

#116 - 11/14/2009 at 3:00pm - sika

How much blood was there and how much of it was yours?

#12 - 11/12/2009 at 10:18am - shaister

You sound scared... methinks the girl did a good job on writing a horrorstory. (Note: your address is probably in the school-information-guide or on the website; it's not exactly hard to come by)

#13 - 11/12/2009 at 10:21am - DasHaas

Psycho Student FTW. EXTREMELY creative =b

#14 - 11/12/2009 at 10:21am - juicy_extasy

Zero tolerance is such a bad way to conduct power around schools. When I was in high school, they used that policy, and every single time someone reported that I was selling dope, I'd get searched. I've never touched any drug (controlled substance) in my life. Example of how the zero tolerance policy only works when the people utilizing aren't complete idiots.

#15 - 11/12/2009 at 10:22am - XaosZaleski

Um, selling "dope" is a really serious offense. Whether you were actually selling it or not, they had every right to question or search you if they thought that was going on in their school.

#18 - 11/12/2009 at 10:30am - just_me_tmp

Selling "dope" is a really serious offense. Whether you were actually selling it or not, they had every right to question or search you. That kind of crap is a level four offense and is up for an immediate expulsion hearing in most states.

#20 - 11/12/2009 at 10:32am - just_me_tmp

Hmmm yeah but ya think after they searched him a couple times and came up clean they might start giving him the benefit of the doubt. I don't know about you but I do not like to be randomly searched. The zero tolerance policy simply allows them to do many things they could not do without it, and lets face it a lot of staff at schools are simply on a power trip. If she was being serious, you should report it, which I am sure you already have. However it seems to me like you asked them to write a scary story and she succeeded. It was intended to scare you.

#24 - 11/12/2009 at 10:41am - KarasuFyre

"Example of how the zero tolerance policy only works when the people utilizing aren't complete idiots." Handing over that kind of power to anyone kinda makes for a potential idiot. Might us well let kittens play on the missile launch buttons. At least then mass destruction is 98% cuter.

#43 - 11/12/2009 at 12:53pm - mercyFML

now see you could have asked for their reasons before they searched you, and declined search without a warrant, i believe...

#80 - 11/12/2009 at 6:09pm - wyld3fyr3

One would think a writing teacher would know the plural possessive of student is students'. It's no wonder our country's students compete so poorly on a global level with educators like you paving their way. YDI.

#17 - 11/12/2009 at 10:31am - H00K_M

I thought this same thing, then thought to myself that it was probably a typo. Then I realized that writing teachers should also know to proofread anything before it is submitted... So, I agree completely with this statement.

#22 - 11/12/2009 at 10:34am - just_me_tmp

Hmmm... she is literally threatened in writing by a student deranged enough to not realize she would get in SERIOUS trouble for writing a story where she attacks her teacher by name... and YOU think she deserves it because she missed an apostrophe in writing her FML? What a totally dumb thing to say. Hope no one accidentally kills you for being so understanding. Then I'd have to say YDI to YOU.

#64 - 11/12/2009 at 3:10pm - Ye_Editor

One would think a writing teacher would know the plural possessive of student is students'. It's no wonder our country's students compete so poorly on a global level with educators like you paving their way. YDI.

#19 - 11/12/2009 at 10:31am - H00K_M

one would think that an internet user knows how not to double post, or that people dont like to bring their work home with them. you dont see surgeons carving open people after work, so why should teachers bother with proper grammar?

#28 - 11/12/2009 at 11:07am - russianspy1234

Actually physicians bring a lot of work home with them. Maybe not in the form of surgeries, but they're still reading relevant articles and probably doing billing or something. The only reason they don't bring more home is because surgeons work 60-80 hours per week. But the real reason I commented was to point out that everyone should bother with proper grammar every minute of every day. If you're an english teacher, you should understand the importance of writing something that can be easily understood by your audience, most of whom are reading far below grade-level these days. The American education system is terrible and public schools just keep passing kids through.

#45 - 11/12/2009 at 12:58pm - RyeBreadBoy

You do know that "English" is meant to be capitalized, right?

#61 - 11/12/2009 at 2:47pm - Yarrachel

Quit getting your panties in a bunch over something so trivial. Grammar natzis are annoying. Its not like the lacking apostrophe made it unreadable.

#71 - 11/12/2009 at 4:03pm - alexandraa

So, in the story, does she give you a chance to put on a condom or does she ride you bareback? I love being attacked by girls.

#23 - 11/12/2009 at 10:35am - perdix

I had a person say they were going to attack me. Guess who got their head bashed in with a brick? Not me. Lol but yea give her ass an A+ 100%!

#25 - 11/12/2009 at 10:41am - SilverStrs5

ahh haa. i think she dont like you and did it as a joke. i wouldnt take that serious. man upp.

#26 - 11/12/2009 at 10:41am - kickrocksz

OMG do people not relize that she got his street right? That's just freaky! I'm sure that the OP wouldn't be as freaked out if his student wasn't that accurate. I would definatley show this to a psycologist, you can never be too safe!

#29 - 11/12/2009 at 11:14am - Starfire22

yes, you can be "too safe". any mortal power that can keep you absolutely safe can lock you in a box. I'd probably pass it on to the school psychologist for an evaluation. and grade the paper 'S' for 'stalker'.

#37 - 11/12/2009 at 11:55am - daengh

Well it was a Halloween story so it was supposed to be scary. Since youre creeped out by the student's assignment, that means he/she deserves an A . anyways, the student can easily find your name thru the phonebook if listed or zabasearch.com.

#30 - 11/12/2009 at 11:15am - skyeyez9

Lock up your daughter, lock up your wife. Lock up your back door, run for your life.

#31 - 11/12/2009 at 11:34am - splydoms

cuz they're TNT, yeah they're dynamite! (good song)

#42 - 11/12/2009 at 12:36pm - peaceout314

You gotta admit, the kid sure did her research. Has she asked for a lock of your hair yet?

#32 - 11/12/2009 at 11:39am - jonny2x4

YDI. You asked for a Halloween story in creative writing. You got exactly what you asked for.

#33 - 11/12/2009 at 11:41am - youthink

Welcome to the days of the internet where you can find out where people live and their relatives using google. Do you have a directory, because that may contribute and make it easier to find someone, especially if you have a telephone number listed.

#34 - 11/12/2009 at 11:52am - somefacts

Some of you guys are reading WAY too much into it. A teachers address wasn't that hard to get ahold of when I was in school. Unless the story involved a person stalking/killing teacher in an overly violent way, I wouldn't worry about it.

#35 - 11/12/2009 at 11:54am - ninjobliveus13

Um dAmn if i. was u report the student in my skool We had a chick and she had a list of teachers and students to kill they thought she was playing but she wasn't she was put under house arrest so serious report especially how the student got your address. They need help

#38 - 11/12/2009 at 12:02pm - Lifeisntfair13

Report them to the VP or counselor, have them suspended or at least counseled.

#39 - 11/12/2009 at 12:16pm - driedpeaches

Proper use of apostrophes would make me take you more seriously as a teacher. Maybe your student felt the same way.

#40 - 11/12/2009 at 12:17pm - happyvalleygirl

F your life if you stop caring about halloween after middle school. Halloween is the second best holiday (second only to christmas) and pretty much everyone I know still celebrates it and loves it and we're in university. You're just an idiot.

#41 - 11/12/2009 at 12:29pm - Lonely_Lez

well said dear sister :D (41) halloween spirit lives in all of us its our job to keep it alive but its not that hard

#49 - 11/12/2009 at 1:06pm - moon_mistress

What a lovely honor. You must be so proud to have been a muse for that kind of focused bloodlust.

#44 - 11/12/2009 at 12:57pm - mercyFML

You're a lazy teacher if you are just now reading a halloween story.

#46 - 11/12/2009 at 12:58pm - Spaceghost77

I think a high school student is old enough to know that that won't be tolerated. So they deserve it for testing you.

#47 - 11/12/2009 at 1:00pm - Ligerie

you must be a bitch.

#48 - 11/12/2009 at 1:05pm - 956TXking

You must be a horrible student. One of those people who blames your failing grades on your teachers and considers any woman in a respected position to be bitchy for doing her job.

#117 - 11/14/2009 at 3:10pm - sika

Is it just me or does this kid sound like Michael myers reincarnated? Just sayin.

#50 - 11/12/2009 at 1:09pm - arsehole

you dead

#51 - 11/12/2009 at 1:11pm - gpstyne

I hope you gave her a C for writing a bad horror movie that turns into a trite, but serviceable porno. In a world, Where she thinks she can't have him, she decides no one will. (Huge knife appears. "Psycho" theme.) As they struggle in mortal combat, their eyes lock. And she realizes she CAN have him. (Bow-chicka-wow-wow) Insert good ol' Catholic schoolgirl porno here. Cumming to a theater or MEGAFLICKS near you.

#54 - 11/12/2009 at 1:24pm - perdix

She's a high school TEENAGER your, a man? Man up, yo

#55 - 11/12/2009 at 1:26pm - thatoneguyinca

Yeah, #40. Stop being a wet blanket. You don't have to be a kid to enjoy Halloween. OP, that is really creepy. I suppose it depends on how much you know the student, but still. What if that paper were about attacking another student? I don't see how this is different. Nowadays, it's definately something to loom into at least.

#56 - 11/12/2009 at 1:28pm - PhillyFox

Lonely_Lez (#41), I have to respectfully disagree with you. The best holiday is: (drum roll) April Fools' Day What gift or costume can compare to the time you send your wife out to get you a swankeeper's hat?

#57 - 11/12/2009 at 1:30pm - perdix

See, that'd make sense if I were only searched once or twice, but I was searched a total of 6 times during my days in high school. And Mercy, I agree. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. I was more or less getting at school officials who have a thing for over-reacting to things 99% of the time.

#58 - 11/12/2009 at 1:32pm - XaosZaleski

This is why I HATE reading comments on FML. First of all, which of you said that his use of apostrophe was wrong? Because unless he went back to correct it....it already IS right. "My students wrote a paper." "I graded my students' papers." That is what he wrote. READ. Secondly, yes the guy is a writing teacher. This is a WEBSITE, not an essay, not a classroom. He doesn't need to run it through eight grammar checks to please a bunch of a people who are probably his students' age. If you had problems understanding his OP, then perhaps you have a learning disability that you oughta check on. And lastly--TALK TO THE PRINCIPAL. Find out what the best course of action is with this girl. This is NOT a joke. She may have meant it as such, but then she needs to be spoken to in order to assess her intentions. She may not need repriminanding, but if she has a history of misbehavior, then don't ignore it. In this day and age, it is the little things like this that people choose to ignore and regret doing so. and by the way....it should be damn near impossible to find a teacher's address, if they are smart and make sure they are unlisted and ditch their FB and MySpace. But regardless--a student should not know their teacher's address, at all.

#59 - 11/12/2009 at 1:43pm - persephone13

Chill out. One of the staff fixed it. It happens ALL THE TIME. Basically anytime someone points out the mistake, the staff fixes it. Fuck.

#60 - 11/12/2009 at 1:51pm - Intoxicunt

While I agree that the op's grammar is correct, if you hate reading comments so much, then why do you read them? No one's forcing you.

#69 - 11/12/2009 at 3:35pm - quarty165

My apologies, I did not know that. Fuck.

#100 - 11/13/2009 at 12:13am - persephone13

It probably didn't just happen today, fool.

#62 - 11/12/2009 at 2:49pm - Yarrachel

This reminds me of an article I read about the Columbine attacks. You really should do something about this or else you might have another Columbine on your hands.

#63 - 11/12/2009 at 3:02pm - bairdsa

damn...dat musta really been type skary if you wouldve failed her huh??

#65 - 11/12/2009 at 3:10pm - T_ZaDdii

You wanted a scary story. The student took your instructions quite literally. I would award an A for creativity.

#66 - 11/12/2009 at 3:11pm - xenomorph

whoa, thats scary.... lemme guess. being a bitch to her in class? or failing her? do something about it be4 she shows up in front of ur house

#67 - 11/12/2009 at 3:23pm - jessxoxo28

To state the obvious, it's really important to get to the bottom of this. You have two basic scenarios, or ideas for scenarios. The first is that the student realized the object of writing horror is to scare the reader, in this case, you. (In this possibility fits the idea that the student could be one of your neighbors and happen to know your address.) The second is that the student hates and plots to kill either you or the entire school. In that case, get a restraining order, and watch out!

#68 - 11/12/2009 at 3:32pm - quarty165

OP: careful what you wish (ask) for. Just because the student wrote a personallized scary story, doesn't mean it was well written and deserves and 'A'. I've seen lots of movies with a good story that were still crappy movies for a multitude of different reasons.

#70 - 11/12/2009 at 3:38pm - kukopia

oh my goodness! lol that is not a good sign, i say call the parents and inform the principal. it becomes serious when they get you correct address!!

#72 - 11/12/2009 at 4:28pm - wellimanidiot

lock your doors and windows and hope to god the kid doesn't turn on you.....in other words, don't fail him!

#74 - 11/12/2009 at 4:56pm - LostSoul81

You "made" them write a story? What did you do, hold on to their pens and force them? It sounds like you are a crappy teacher and I don't blame the student for fantasizing about doing you in.

#77 - 11/12/2009 at 5:14pm - margie4peace

#77 wtf? Of course he didn't force them to write the story in the way you're thinking about. Jesus Christ. He probulary 'made' them write the stories by...oh I don't know..setting it as homework? A class assignment? You know, how teachers usually do.

#78 - 11/12/2009 at 5:31pm - 13929jje

Agreed.

#121 - 11/15/2009 at 10:14pm - chinCHILLaout

Get her out of your class, get her into counseling or suspension, change your phone # before she does something you'll both regret, and quickly dissociate from her. Just in case...

#82 - 11/12/2009 at 6:37pm - SEPHARAD

I bet hers was the scariest!

#87 - 11/12/2009 at 7:39pm - teiso

Report that. This is how Harris and Dylan basically said in-code that they were going to shoot people. "Yeah, I dreamed that people were getting shot..."

#88 - 11/12/2009 at 8:01pm - fawfulster

OP: I don't think you should have the student commited until you've put the story into context. Does the student hate you? Do she show signs of anti-social or violent behaviour? Do you have a healthy student-teacher relationship? Maybe she just did it to scare you, maybe you should talk to her before putting something on her permanent record. But you know, that's common sense. When did schools start using that?

#90 - 11/12/2009 at 8:22pm - crazytoaster

Hmm looks like its time for you to move

#91 - 11/12/2009 at 8:33pm - Erindub

Yeah, for your saftey... I'd recommend giving her an A... anything lower and she might try to kill you. Preemptive measures, my friend.

#94 - 11/12/2009 at 9:57pm - Fidget1990

Mr. Marshall?! I hope this isn't you xD

#95 - 11/12/2009 at 9:58pm - quintuple_09

holy crap that's funny.

#98 - 11/13/2009 at 12:03am - Houdeka

#99 - 11/13/2009 at 12:10am - Thecommish

Their ur students what do u think there gonna write about?

#102 - 11/13/2009 at 1:12am - woofis

Your the one that wanted the damn horror story in the first place. Im gonna have to say YDI and FYL because this is just well, your screwed, type of things.

#104 - 11/13/2009 at 2:16am - Tigg3r

I'm going to go out on a assumption and say YDI - you're probably one of those shitty teachers that impact a childs life in such a horrible way that not one this single student dreams about killing you in their sleep but the entire freaking class and school faculty also dreams this...

#105 - 11/13/2009 at 3:16am - andrewms

i'd tell him to fuck off

#107 - 11/13/2009 at 3:46am - thekingjoe90

I peronally think that your student he/she is just slighty..."different"....either that or just plainly fucking....no I can't say it. That student just needs help.

#108 - 11/13/2009 at 4:36am - bikeduster

You need to show her writing to the principal and see what can be done. A lot of schools have disciplinary action for threatening a teacher, even in writing. Then talk with the parents, so that they can put her in therapy. Not to scare you, but you also might want to speak with a police officer about what would be needed for a restraining order, and might at least want to file some sort of report, so that it's on record. Also, if you get a lot of hangups or prank phone calls, you should log them in a notebook beside the phone; additionally, some phone companies will keep records for you of incoming calls, if you let them know you're being harrassed. If you don't have a security system, consider getting one, and never leave your doors and windows unlocked. (Including your car.) Oh, and if you have outside pets, you might decide to keep them inside as much as possible, when you're not there watching them. At very least, show it to the principal and talk to the kid's parents. Sometimes these things are benign, but nowadays you can't be too careful, so that you don't end up a statistic.

What's the big deal? I knew my teacher's home address and phone number. Sure it wasn't listed, but her husband with a different surname was.
