Today, I got a letter confirming I had dropped out of college. I received this letter shortly after completing the 10th essay I had finished this week as a result of me deciding to finally apply myself to my schoolwork. Turns out that while dropping a class, I checked Drop All instead of Drop 1. FML

I agree, your life sucks (9846)
You totally deserve it (22018)

Ouch. That stinks big time -- FYL.

#1 - 11/02/2009 at 7:34pm - Rhaegar

lol...im sure to drop all of your classes, you would need to talk with an actual person.

#34 - 11/02/2009 at 10:10pm - cackle

My school also makes it ridiculously easy to drop classes, so I believe the op that. Not the ten essays though.

#7 - 11/02/2009 at 7:37pm - ryanryanryan12

But, on the bright side, those classes are going to be RIDICULOUSLY easy when you re-take them next semester.

#8 - 11/02/2009 at 7:39pm - Gozzirra

Seems like dropping a course is something where you would look twice before doing that...

#9 - 11/02/2009 at 7:41pm - ifoundthishat

Ummm you can probably fix that by going to the registrar.

#10 - 11/02/2009 at 7:42pm - capricaz

Yea you probably can if you explain you made a mistake

#28 - 11/02/2009 at 9:13pm - Dos_Pesos

And that's why you always double, triple and quadruple check when you do important stuff like drop classes. Especially when the form is online, because online forms are often poorly designed and confusing. YDI for not checking the form before hitting "Submit." And I'm tempted to say YDI for not applying yourself to your schoolwork in the first place, but... I'm kind of a slacker myself (though I've never had to drop a class). Also, I realize that school isn't for everybody (and that "college" does not automatically equal "intelligent" ).

#33 - 11/02/2009 at 9:52pm - Christina21

I call bs. Unless your college's website is really retarded I don't think it's possible. Also, dropping classes != dropping out of college, it just means you aren't taking courses for the semester anymore. It's different.

#37 - 11/02/2009 at 10:14pm - jailbot

My school's website is like that, so you can drop all your classes online. Since the OP is retarded, he probably read the letter he received wrong; he might not actually be "dropped out" of his college.

#38 - 11/02/2009 at 10:31pm - whiskeyloverrrr

Wow, that is horrible! FYL for sure.

#39 - 11/02/2009 at 10:51pm - rosesdarkblue

Well, considering it's a little over halfway through the semester, if you're "finally" applying yourself, you seem to be a fucking moron to begin with. Good going shithead. You deserve it. psh...probably a liberal arts major too amirite?

#42 - 11/02/2009 at 11:46pm - HookEmTexas07

'drop like its hot drop like its hot' YDI for not caring about your classes when you get to college

#43 - 11/02/2009 at 11:52pm - cerebellum

You know, if you're dumb enough to do this, maybe this is a message saying it would have been inevitable anyway.

#44 - 11/03/2009 at 12:02am - Nemephosis

I had something like this happen once. My school makes it easy to drop and add classes online, also. The website was poorly designed and I ended up accidentally dropping all of my classes. If you go to your academic advisor and explain what happened, he/she will be able to help you add everything back. Just be sure you do it before they refund your money. With my college, it took about a week to get the refund for dropped classes.

#45 - 11/03/2009 at 12:21am - loki09

I don't think it's possible to still drop a class this late in the semester. You'd have to withdraw from the course which means you'd have to fill out a form. But then, who knows when you actually wrote this FML? Could have been a month ago... So FYL, OP. Go talk to the registrar or your academic adviser.

#46 - 11/03/2009 at 12:33am - star_ver

This is the weakest FML in quite a while. Seriously, go talk to a person and get it fixed. Whoopdee frickin' doo...

#47 - 11/03/2009 at 12:38am - blalien

I call fakesies. No way you can just "drop" a class this late in the semester, you'd need to withdraw and get signatures from the professor and probably the associate dean. I also don't think that "dropping" all your classes also means dropping out of college, I think that's a totally separate deal. Who knows, this could be a school in topsy-turvy world.

#48 - 11/03/2009 at 12:46am - rothenb

Just because your college is like that doesn't mean everyone's is. At the college I was going to, everything to do with classes is web-based. We register and drop our classes online. Doing this makes it so we CAN drop a class half-way through the semester without having to explain ourselves to the professor.

#51 - 11/03/2009 at 1:42am - haweb

Not all colleges are the same. The college I go to, all we have to do is go onto our online account and click "drop class", they give us a list of all of our classes. The option drop all IS there. All you have to do is click that, say ok, and they do the same as to the OP, send you a letter confirming that you have dropped said classes.

#49 - 11/03/2009 at 1:24am - Skylily

Dropping all your classes could mean dropping out of that college if the college has an attendance policy that states you have to have a certain number of hours (like above zero) per semester to be enrolled. It doesn't make sense for colleges to keep people enrolled as students if they don't take any classes. However, even if the OP was dropped out of college he can still enroll next semester if he can't get it fixed for this semester. Not like he's banned from that college b/c he dropped out one semester.

#50 - 11/03/2009 at 1:30am - janise

Maybe you aren't college material after all.

#53 - 11/03/2009 at 2:04am - Ninjaface

Ninjaface, totally agree with you..

#55 - 11/03/2009 at 2:17am - WonderBlunder

Well, now you know that you don't have the maturity nor the intelligence to cut it in college.Good luck with your future, buddy.

#56 - 11/03/2009 at 2:33am - alpha_beta

That sucks. Thank God for those "Are you sure" messages afterward though.

In the immortal words of Judge Smails "well the world needs ditch diggers too."

#59 - 11/03/2009 at 3:48am - CallMeHush

Well, that's what you get for not reading what the paper says.

#60 - 11/03/2009 at 10:19am - DJ_Grim

if i were you, i'd hurry over to talk to somebody about that and get that fixed asap. because i'm sure you can fix everything. and next time when you're dropping classes, read the paper? yea.

#61 - 11/03/2009 at 1:11pm - fuckingshitt343

go to your school and tell them the misstake. I'm sure they'll help you fix things up. RI

#66 - 11/03/2009 at 9:41pm - sababa1

Who would vote this YDI? It's an honest mistake. It's a sucky part of life.

#68 - 11/04/2009 at 5:50am - lilmsgoodgoody

Ten essays in a week? Sounds unlikely. I study at History at Cambridge- despite being arguably the best university in the world for this subject, I only have to submit one essay per week- max 2.

#69 - 11/04/2009 at 10:01am - ginwl

I think he means it was his 10th essay for the whole semester so far that he finished this week. 10 is a lot. Also, I'm pretty sure he meant he was taking more than one class, decided to drop one class, and accidentally dropped other classes he wasn't intending. Being someone who has been very near your position, I find it hard to see how anyone can "YDI" this. The checkboxes are kind of close and the forms can be quite intimidating. It's a hard decision as it is to drop/withdraw from a class. If this just happened you actually have time to correct this. Go to your advisors and tell them it was a mistake. If you're really trying to apply yourself and do better, explain this to them and they might understand. If you intend to pass classes you are not dropping, I STRONGLY suggest you fight this out and try to get back in. It will be worth the effort in the longrun so you don't have to retake the classes you could have passed. I feel for you man, I wish you the best of luck because college isn't easy.

#70 - 11/04/2009 at 12:47pm - hl85

The college I go to (which is in Maryland whoo) lefts you drop classes up until Nov. 9, but with a 'W'. You don't need permission from the professor or the department or whatever. So yeah, I don't think this is fake.

#71 - 11/04/2009 at 8:30pm - Riceball

That sucks for you if this is real, but honestly, what college has a "Drop All" button? I suggest BS. Most people in educational administration have enough of a heart to go through the work to correct an honest mistake like this that would have such a dramatic effect on somebody's life. Go talk to them and get it straightened out.

do your school work in the first place then. That's the general idea, right? geez

#74 - 11/07/2009 at 1:09am - suzsmith

I can understand how you would do this. Very carelessly but understandable. See if there is anyway you can fix it. Talk to admission asap.
